Teen Therapy

It’s no secret that being a teenager is a difficult developmental period. There is an unconscious tension between yearning for independence and dealing with dependency needs. By connecting with teens in an authentic and respectful way, I help make this tension more conscious, enabling informed choices about behaviors and consequences.

Teens benefit from a relationship with a trusted adult who can provide feedback without the angst of a parent-child relationship. I am able to respond to a crisis when needed, particularly if the foundation of a safe relationship has been built.

It can be challenging for parents to deal constructively with their own deep seated fears about the health and safety of their child. Therapy with teens can be expanded to family therapy to address these fears, as well as parental hopes, disappointments and the need for clear communication with their teens.
